SHAMSIA HASSANI
Shamsia Hassani, born in April 1988, is a Lecturer at the largest university in Afghanistan (Kabul University), she is also the first Afghan female graphic designer and street artist. Through her works, Shamsia portrays Afghan women in a society where the male universe is completely predominant. Her works give Afghan women a different face, imbued with strength, ambition and will to achieve goals. The feminine character infused by her in her works illustrates a human being who is proud, tenacious and can bring positive changes in people's lives. During the last decade of the post-war era in Afghanistan, Shamsia's works brought a huge wave of color and were appreciated by all the women of the nation. In December 2021, Hassani was included by the BBC in the list of the 100 women who distinguished themselves most in the year. At Kabul University, Shamsia Hassani taught sculpture until December 2021. Now she is forced to live in hiding because of her activity as a street writer in favor of Afghan women. Her murals are constantly erased by the authorities, but she does not stop, because, she says, "art is stronger than war".
